No Surrender I couldnt agree more..we are on the same page..
I have a breeding taking place very soon with a kennel in Europe and some of the pups are going to the states for testing on Hogs..(I now own Bulldogs)..then I will know if Im going in the right direction as regards breeding..
Anyone who thinks Hog Hunting is cruel on the Hog really needs to do some research..a friend of mine very recently lost two very good dogs in the States to a rank Boar..nothing could be done to save them..these are not pigs..these animals are extremly dangerous and a mistake from a catch dog could cost you very dear..catching Hogs with dogs is the most humane method..you can work your dog and the Hog is dispatched quick time once the Bulldog has caught and held the quarry..it would take alot of shot to kill a Boar and more often than not the animal would limp off into the woods severly injured and die slowly causing needless suffering..the hunters of Boar I talk to have the utmost respect for the Hog and want the animal harvested quickly and efficiently..and thier dogs back safe and in one piece..one swipe of a Boars head can and does open a dog up like a tin opener..most hunt with bay dogs and a couple of Bulldogs to make the catch..depending on the Boar..
Many dogs will catch..only the cream of the crop make catch dogs..
A friend of mines injury list after a regular hunt, (USA)..( rank Boar) just to give you an idea..all the dogs happy to say made a full recovery..and are back out in the woods walking the walk..
Woodrow (Catahoula) - open chest wound, broken rib, punctured lung. Spent the night at the vets and we brought him home this afternoon...he's doing well, will be out until after the first of the year.
Jazz (Catahoula) - 5 inch, deep laceration just behind the shoulder into the armpit, (2) 1 inch pokes under the chin, 1 puncture wound just above a teat. Will be out 2-3 weeks.
Saber (Catahoula) - 1 thru and thru gash on the lower chin/neck (just above her cut collar)...came within a hair of hitting the jugular. Spent the night at the vet, she went home this afternoon. Will be out 2-3 weeks.
Shadow (Catahoula x bird dog) - 2 small lacerations to lower left front leg. Will be out 2 weeks.
Bull (APBT) - 1 inch laceration under neck (just above the cut collar), 4 inch laceration from the corner of the mouth to just under the eye, wound was deep following upper jaw. Spent the night with the vet, he went home this afternoon. Will be out approximately 1 month.
Molly (AB) - 1 inch poke on chin, 1 inch poke on muzzle under her left eye. Will be ready to go in 2 weeks.
Sorry I know Ive gone a bit off topic but Hog Hunting was mentioned in this thread..
