just some books that have pointed me in the right direction over the years, some might say that some are old hat but i have just taken bits from them all over the years and come up with my own methods on obedience, security, nose-work and PP. No two dogs are the same just like no two books are the same. TELL HIM-LT-COL. G. H. BADCOCK rep 1946 OBEDIENCE AND SECURITY TRAINING FOR DOGS-TOM SCOT 1967 he was one of the original handlers for the metropolitan police NOSE-WORK FOR DOGS-JOHN CREE 1980 THE OBEDIENT DOG-JOHN HOLMES 1975 WATCH DOGS-THEIR TRAINING AND MANAGEMENT- LIEUT.-COL. E.H. RICHARDSON-1923-He was the commandant of the British war dog school in the great war. K9 BODY GUARDS- MIKE HARLOW- a good book but it is best to know a bit fist but good pics on wot you will need and how to do it. TRAINING DOGS-A MANUAL- COL. KONRAD MOST-1ST published in the UK in 1954. My favorite book on it all he trained the dogs for the German police and the armed forces. Their are a lot of good books out their but these have done it for me.

Thanks for those, I have been thinking of doing some more training with Buddy and considering some of the different methods. There seems to be a few different schools of thought such as pack leader based training, positive reinforcement only, clicker training, positive and correction based etc.
I would also be interested to know what methods people have found work best.

I have found it a lot easier to start training Buddy with food rewards it certainly gets his 100% attention and is getting results with learning simple sit, down and stay stuff. I am going to start dropping the ratio of food rewards and increase the non food rewards and see how we do.
I watched a trainer somewhere on the net who baits the dog at the start of training by letting it sniff the food in a closed hand but not giving it any until later after its done more commands and also suggested that then if you don't have any food you can false bait the dog with no food in a closed hand, it seemed to work for him but I'm not sure, probably better if you can to get them to do it to please the pack leader.
