Hotdog where have I said that, I was stating that if a pet or companion was wanted why the stafford when there are so many other breeds to choose from . A stafford can be a handfull to even an experienced dog owner let alone the novice, hense why there are so many in the dogs home

Maybe I misintrepreted what you said??? What type of owner would you say should own a Stafford?
Personally I find Staffords to be one of the easier breeds to own and train, their dog aggression is a problem but as long as you're aware of it and take appropriate precautions then they're reasonably easy to own. I think they can make great pets.
The reason there are so many in homes is that there are just too many out there. People just breed them without a care or consideration and that's the reason there are so many shit ones too.
BTW this has gone way off topic.

Hotdog the type of owner who should own a stafford is a responsible one who understands the breed. I do not disagree with your comments there are way to many bred and for the wrong reasons and yes you may find them easy to own but you have done your homework regarding the breed but there are many out there who have not. Dogs are like kids if bought up correctly they are a pleasure to own, but untrained they are a nightmare, if a kid has no manners its rude and disrespectfull but a bullterrier is a accident waiting to happen if in the wrong hands

Owners and so could breeders like that prat with the two bull terriers that killed my misses dog should not be able to own or breed dogs like this with out assessing 1st that is were the problem is with over breeding is coming from with them types just breeding for money and passing on pups to people with even less knowledge at keeping, managing and breeding dogs than them self's and until this problem is addressed it is just going to get worse.

Can you tell me what tests you are trying to bring in Orangepeel on your dog days

I would like to see obedience tests, Luring for a mile and a half, on an inclined treadmill with Heart rate measured from the end of the test to the return to resting, indicating fitness levels. Endurance based mainly, to include prey drive and obedience. I dont have a venue but will try for one towards the end of the year. It would be for far less dogs than the current days.

As it is a lot of dedication with many hours of hard work to get the dogs to this type of level of fitness and obedience work. Good luck

Hey Guys..I have read this thread with interest..some valid points are being made..the problem is no surrender that most people are coming from a basis of little or no information and no experience of the subject that they are trying to debate, other than the horrific scenes portrayed by the media and sickening DVds like "off the chain"..and to be fair who can blame them..look at the state of the so called dog men testing their dogs today and their treatment of the dogs..and thier reasons for doing so..the coka cola brigade got their hands on the dogs many years ago as the dogs popularity increased and breeders realised there was money to be had selling these dogs..these new so called dog men had no understanding of the game..and it was the begining of the end..the dog became secondary to the huge Egos that became so apparant..the days of old are gone..when testing was done as a tool to evaluate breeding stock etc..and the search for the holy grail "Gameness" was the coverted prize..as for titles..alot depends on the opponent..you may have a five x winner at your feet..it means jack if the oppostion were no test and gameness didnt come into play..jmo The past is the past and without it none of us would own the dogs we do today..but you have to move on..regardless of what you think makes a good dog..I say fair play to anyone who does more than just let their dog warm its arse on their couch.. Kager Kager that so far is the most honest response to my post, as I said before I would rather say nothing on a subject than talk shite about things I know nothing about. The media have done there bit as have the RSPCA and brainwashed people into whatever. Your coments regarding todays dogmen are 100% true most have no respect for themselves let alone the dogs. Like any activity with dogs be it matching or hunting to the uneducated its cruel, uncalled for, but carried out correctly by real dogmen who respect there dogs and chosen quarry and know how to care for there dogs after whatever there sport in question you should have respect. The past is the past but without the men who have took the risk to preserve the gameness of this great breed you would not have the dog you have today No Surrender
